Katrina20Years.org is a project of the Foundation for Louisiana (FFL), created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and its devastating impact on the Gulf Coast. This site serves as a platform to reflect on the past two decades, acknowledge the ongoing struggles, and celebrate the strength of the communities most affected. It is a space for remembrance, storytelling, and a call to action for a more equitable and just future.

Drawing on FFL’s nearly two decades of experience working in disaster recovery and community resilience across Louisiana, Katrina20Years.org offers a unique perspective on the long-term recovery process. We acknowledge that while much progress has been made, significant challenges remain, particularly for historically excluded communities who were disproportionately impacted by the storm.

Katrina20Years.org is more than just a historical record. It aims to:

• Commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by honoring the lives lost and celebrating the survival, determination, and progress of affected communities.  
• Educate the public about the ongoing recovery challenges and successes, placing a spotlight on the intersection of racial equity, climate resilience, and social justice.  
• Amplify community-driven solutions and strategies that exemplify how forward-thinking policy, philanthropic support, and grassroots innovation can create lasting change.

It also hosts a community calendar, where organizations can share upcoming events—such as memorial gatherings, panel discussions, volunteer opportunities, and cultural showcases—ensuring that everyone has a chance to participate, learn, and connect. Additionally, this platform looks toward the future by offering in-depth reports, research findings, and policy briefs that highlight best practices in disaster recovery, climate adaptation, and community-led development.
